WORLD DAY OF THE POOR, SANT’EGIDIO: START AFRESH FROM SOLIDARITY TO RESPOND TO WAR AND THE ECONOMIC CRISIS

On Sunday 13 November, the Community will celebrate all over the world with the homeless, refugees, the elderly, children from the Schools of Peace – In Rome, participation in the Mass and lunch with Pope Francis and the extraordinary opening of the canteen in via Dandolo

At a time marked by the war in Ukraine and its economic and social consequences, such as the increase in the cost of living, on Sunday 13 November, the Community of Sant’Egidio will celebrate the sixth World Day of the Poor, desired by Pope Francis, all over the world. In Rome, the Community will take part in the celebration at St Peter’s and in the lunch with the Pope together with about a hundred poor people, of whom it is a friend all year round. Also in Rome, from 1 p.m., the canteen in Via Dandolo 10 will be open thanks to the free commitment of the students of the School of Italian Language and Culture, ‘new Europeans’ coming from different countries and now integrated. There will also be numerous appointments of solidarity with the poor in other Italian cities including Bologna, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Padua, Pescara and Turin (for all appointments, click here).

The Day will also be celebrated in all the countries where Sant’Egidio is present: in several European cities as well as in Africa, Asia and Latin America, with the elderly, street and Peace School children, refugees, prisoners. Everywhere will be an opportunity to launch a message of hope that invites everyone to start again from solidarity.
