Films that inspire and uplift the soul this year
Cinema with values
Cinema remains one of the great cultural vehicles of our time. Through its stories, characters, and soundscapes, it not only entertains but also educates, moves, and raises profound questions. For Christians, choosing what we watch wisely doesn’t mean fleeing the world, but rather seeking out works that help us look at reality with clearer, more hopeful, and truer eyes. This year, the seventh art offers us some offerings worth discovering.
1. “Cabrini”: the strength of a holy woman
Directed by Alejandro Monteverde (known for Sound of Freedom), Cabrini tells the life of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The film shows the struggle of this Italian nun, who immigrated to the United States in the 19th century, to defend immigrants and build hospitals and schools. Beyond the classic biopic, Cabrini speaks of courage, faith, and social justice in a difficult time. A luminous and necessary portrait of a woman.

2. “The Most Reluctant Convert”: C.S. Lewis’s Inner Journey
Although released some time ago, the film about the famous author of The Chronicles of Narnia has reached more countries this year. It tells of his conversion from intellectual skepticism to profound faith. The film, based on his own memoirs, combines theatricality and philosophical depth, reminding us that the path to God can pass through pain, doubt, and reason.

3. “The Chosen”: when series also evangelize
Although not strictly a film, The Chosen continues to gain viewers around the world. With a fresh narrative and a deeply human approach to the life of Jesus and his disciples, the series captivates both believers and those seeking answers. Its success, financed by crowdfunding and outside the usual commercial circuits, demonstrates the hunger for true stories.

4. «Sight»: the gaze that transforms
Based on true events, this film follows the story of Dr. Ming Wang, a Chinese immigrant who, after a difficult childhood under the communist regime, finds meaning in his life by helping the underprivileged. The film addresses forgiveness, resilience, and commitment to one’s fellow human beings.

5. Other brief recommendations:
-
“The Blind”, about the conversion of the founder of the Robertson family, famous for the reality show Duck Dynasty.
-
Documentaries such as “Mother Teresa: No Greater Love” show the spiritual and social impact of key figures in the Church.
-
Upcoming European releases centered on historical figures such as Saint Benedict and Saint Therese of Lisieux.

Look with Christian eyes
Pope Leo XIV, like Pope Francis and Benedict XVI before him, has reminded us that art, and cinema in particular, are not neutral: they either help elevate the soul or leave it stagnant in noise. It’s not about watching only “religious films,” but about seeking out stories that convey truth, beauty, and goodness. And about knowing how to engage in dialogue with productions that, although not explicitly Christian, reflect the human heart’s longing for the infinite.
