June: The Greatest Month of the Year for the Church
From the birth of the Church to the witness of Saints Peter and Paul: a month filled with feasts that celebrate the foundations of our faith

Have you noticed the significance of June? Maybe you hadn’t, but almost every year, regardless of the exact dates (which vary according to the liturgical calendar), this month brings together some of the most significant feasts for Christians. And the best part: it’s not even over yet!
It all begins on Pentecost Sunday, the day that marks the birth of the Church and the first major mass baptism: some 5,000 people—men and women, mostly adults—received the faith at the hands of the apostles. Shortly after, thanks to the apostle Peter, entire families, including children, began to be baptized, as has been the tradition ever since.
Next comes the memory of Mary, Mother of the Church, whom we ask to teach us to care for and serve our Christian community with joy, as she did with her Son Jesus.
Then, we celebrate the Holy Trinity, that great feast in which we simultaneously honor the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A celebration that reminds us that our faith is rooted in the triune God, and that is why we proclaim every day: “Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
Then comes Corpus Christi, one of the most special feasts of the year. We commemorate the most impressive miracle: Jesus remained with us, not only in spirit, but in his Body and Blood. This immense gift—the Eucharist—is not just for Sundays, but for every day of our lives. A divine nourishment that strengthens us and unites us to Christ’s redemptive sacrifice.
June also brings us the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion revealed to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. Jesus asked her to honor her heart, a symbol of his love for all humanity, a love expressed on the cross, but also in every step he took preaching the Kingdom throughout Israel. That same Heart that made us 12 promises and asks us to spread it throughout the world.
The following day, we celebrate the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She was not only born without sin, but remained immaculate in the midst of a world filled with sin, violence, and evil. Mary lived surrounded by pain, but never responded with hatred. She was a strong, loving woman, always open to God’s will. Her heart, already pure from the beginning, was enriched with every act of love, becoming a jewel of grace and mercy at the end of her life.
And if that weren’t enough, we close the month with the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, the great pillars of the Church. Peter, the first Vicar of Christ, and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, witnesses to God’s love and martyrs for the faith. Their joint feast reminds us of the universality of the Christian message and the solidity of the foundations upon which the Church was built.
Do you see now why June is such a special month?
Prepare yourself each year to live it with greater awareness, greater gratitude, and greater action. May each June be an opportunity to renew our faith, celebrate our Christian roots, and do all the good we can.
