June: The Month of Change… and Trust
A Time of Exams, Decisions, and Faith: When Trusting in God Is the Best Strategy

June begins, and for thousands of families, their hearts beat with a different rhythm. In many homes, tables are filled with notes, schedules are reorganized around studying, and emotions—even if they try to hide them—are running high. It’s time for the University Entrance Exam (PAU), the University Entrance Exam (University Entrance Exam), and the Selectividad (University Selectivity), and it shows. It shows in the tension that hangs in the air, in the silences of concentration, in the sighs of anguish, and also in the words of encouragement that, though repeated, though seemingly useless, are never in excess. These are days of nerves, of late nights, of early mornings with dark circles under the eyes, and breakfasts with knots in the stomach. And with this article, I want to shout to everyone involved: parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and everyone who supports the suffering team: calm.
We already know that June is, par excellence, the month of big decisions. Those that seem definitive, that unsettle, that impose. What career will they study? Where? Will it be a good choice? What if they don’t fit the path we had planned? What if they make a mistake?
If you find yourself at that moment of discernment, of accompanying a son or daughter in the moment of choosing a path, the first thing is: don’t worry. Yes, it sounds easy to say. But you are not alone. You are not alone. Because God, who is Father, does not ignore our processes. He does not observe from afar. He knows that discernment is part of growth. And that making mistakes, sometimes, is also part of it.
The Lord is a specialist in unexpected paths, in doors that open when we thought there were no more. He is the Creator of serendipities, of those providential coincidences that end up taking us, although, on the other hand, to where we were meant to go. So, if this June doesn’t go as planned, trust. If your child doesn’t get into the career they had dreamed of, trust. If you need to shelve a plan or rethink a vocation, trust.
Because the month of deciding is, above all, the month of trust.
It’s the perfect time to remember that God’s plans are higher than ours, and that our decisions don’t always have to be definitive to be well. The important thing isn’t to get it right the first time, but to walk with faith, with confidence, knowing that, if we get lost, He always knows how to put us back on the original path.
June is a whirlwind. But it’s also an opportunity to teach our children—and remind ourselves—that not everything depends on us. That there is a Father who guides, who sustains, and who knows. Let’s make room for God. Let’s make room for trust. Because when we trust, even mistakes end up being part of the plan.
And, in case they’re helpful, I’ll leave you with some very human tips for facing the Selectividad (University Entrance Exam) that a very wise woman recommended to my daughter:
Good handwriting: when you’ve marked 50 exams, they appreciate it.
Separate your paragraphs well, starting with the key question they ask you.
Save time: Answer whatever they ask you, even if you know a lot more. Don’t get stuck on a question; come back to it later.
If you get stuck, take a deep breath, close your eyes for a few seconds, and start again with a question you’re familiar with. And today… get your guardian angel out of the hot seat from minute one.
