Maria’s parents, the six-year-old girl who died last week run over in a terrible accident when leaving Montealto School in Madrid, Spain, have shared a letter of gratitude to all those that have been by their side in these terrible circumstances, accompanying them with prayer and affection. Two other girls were seriously injured and are still in the hospital.

In their message, Maria and Alex, the little girl’s parents, offer an impressive example of faith. “We assure you that your prayers sustain us.” They both expressed the “certainty that Mariquilla is enjoying herself more than ever in Heaven, because she enjoyed life  and I believe she knew that she could only be better there, with her true Father and her true Mother.”

They also addressed some emotive words to the mother who was driving the car, which caused the mortal accident. “I know you are doing so, but I beg you for many prayers for the other two families and for Maria, the mother that we think has suffered most from the accident, and we repeat to her once more to abandon herself in the Lord, to realize that she is not at all, to blame and even though it’s incomprehensible, our God has permitted it to draw from it greater goods.

“Several testimonies were expressed in the mortuary of people that were far from the Faith and, thanks to our little Maria, went to pray the Rosary in churches and have come out very comforted. We invite them not to leave it <the Rosary> and to continue seeking the Lord, so that they come to know and love Him and let themselves be loved by Him,” reads the letter. “Human love is finite, but God’s LOVE is infinite so we invite them to drink from the fountain of love, which can give us a true life in fulness and, later on, eternal life,” it states.

Here is a translation of little Maria’s parents’ letter.

* * *

We are overwhelmed by the many expressions of affection, but as at this moment we are in our cave, trying to heal one another, we have no idea how much you are praying. We are not up to reading all the affectionate messages, because we would be crying all day and we can’t allow ourselves that, as we have five other small children to take care of; moreover, each of your messages is more affectionate than the other and full of love and Faith. We assure you that your prayers sustain us.

I know that you are doing so, but I beg you to pray a lot for the other two families and for Maria, the mother that has suffered most from the accident and we repeat to her once again to abandon herself in the Lord, to realize that she has no blame whatsoever and that even if it is incomprehensible, our God has permitted it to draw greater goods. In the mortuary, we were told about several testimonies of people that were far from the Faith and that, thanks to our little Maria, went to pray the Rosary in churches and have come out very comforted. We invite them not to leave it the Rosary and to continue seeking the Lord so that they come to know and love Him and let themselves be loved by Him. Human love is finite, but God’s LOVE is infinite, so we invite them to drink from the fountain of love, which can give us a true life in fulness and, later on, eternal life.

We are also grateful for the deployment of SAMUR, police, and firefighters of the Municipality of Madrid, who cared for us with so much affection and professionalism. It makes me truly proud of my homeland, of our dear Spain. What to say of our Patronage Schools: Montealto and El Prado, and many others that have shown with deeds the Christian values they foment. And of course our Mother the Church, which in our diocese of Madrid and in many others has not ceased in her prayers and expressions of support.

We thank God for all our friends and our great family. How important it is to care for friends and the family, and we also permit ourselves to ask you for prayers for the family, as it seems that some want to have it disappear.

Look, to be able to sleep, Maria and I share Dumbo, the stuffed elephant of our baby, but with the certainty that Mariquilla is enjoying herself more than ever in Heaven, because she enjoyed life and I believe she knew that she could only be better there, with her true Father and her true Mother. We have the consolation that we gave all so that our Mariquilla was well looked after and made over. We thank God for these wonderful five years that He gave us with her.

We love you.

Maria and Alex
