Reverend Giampio Luigi Devasini, Until Now Vicar General of Diocese of Casale Monferrato

Pope Francis has appointed as bishop of the Diocese of Chiavari, Italy, the Reverend Giampio Luigi Devasini, until now vicar general of the diocese of Casale Monferrato.

The appointment came after the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Chiavari presented by Bishop Alberto Tanasini.

Curriculum vitae


Msgr. Giampio Luigi Devasini was born on September 4, 1962, in Alessandria, in the province and diocese of the same name. After graduating in law from the University of Genoa, he entered the Theological Seminary of Alessandria and was ordained a priest on June 8, 2002, for the diocese of Casale Monferrato. In 2010, at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy (Milan section) he was awarded a licentiate in moral theology.

He has held the following offices: from 2002 to 2007, vice-rector of the Episcopal Seminary; from 2002 to 2015, parish administrator of Alfiano Natta and Cardona; from 2003 to 2019, episcopal delegate for consecrated life; in 2005, member of the diocesan episcopal council, the presbyteral council, the college of consultors and the diocesan council for economic affairs; in 2007, vice-rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Crea; from 2007 to 2015, parish administrator of Sanico; from 2009 to 2012, episcopal vicar for pastoral care; from 2011 to 2015, moderator of the Santa Gianna Beretta Molla pastoral unit; from 2011 to 2015, pro-vicar general; since 2015, vicar general and parish priest of Pontestura and Quarti; from 2015 to 2017, parish priest of Solonghello; and since 2016, episcopal delegate for relations with the superintendencies.

Since 2014, he has been canon of the Cathedral; since 2019, president and legal representative of the Opera Diocesana Assistenza Foundation, the Opera Apostolato Mariano, the Villa Serena Foundation, the Shrine of the Beata Virgine Madonna del Pozzo, the Opera Diocesana di Assistenza Consortium and since 2020, rector of the Church of San Antonio Abate in Casale Monferrato.
