Pope Francis Names New Bishop of Reno, Nevada

Bishop Daniel Henry Mueggenborg Who Was Vice-Rector at the NAC to Lead American Diocese

Pope Francis has named Bishop Daniel Henry Mueggenborg as the new Bishop of Reno, Nevada.

This was announced in a bulletin from the Holy See Press Office today, July 20, 2021, which stated the Holy Father accepted the resignation presented by Bishop Randolph Roque Calvo who had led the Diocese.

According to a Vatican biography, Bishop Daniel Henry Mueggenborg was born on April 15, 1962 in Okarche, Oklahoma, Diocese of Tulsa. He completed his philosophical studies at Saint Meinrad Seminary , Indiana (1984-1985), and theological studies at The Pontifical North American College and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Biblical Theology (1985-1990).

He was ordained a priest on July 14, 1989 for the Diocese of Tulsa.


After his priestly ordination he held the following positions: Parish Vicar of Saint Mary Parish in Tulsa (1989), of St. John Parish in Bartlesville (1990-1991) and of St. Pius X Parish in Tulsa (1991-1994); Bishop Kelley High School chaplain (1991-1994); Parish Administrator of St. Cecilia Parish in Claremore (1995-1996); Pastor of the Church of the Madalene in Tulsa (1996-2001); Chaplain of the Saint Philip Neri Catholic Newman Center at the University of Tulsa (1998-2001); Pastor of St. Clement Parish to Bixby (2001-2005); Director of the Diocesan Synod Office (2002-2005).

Moreover, he served as Assistant Director of Formation at The Pontifical North American College in Rome (2005-2006) and Vice-Rector for the Administration of the same Pontifical College (2006-2011). He was also pastor of Christ the King Parish (2011-2017).

On April 6, 2017 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle, receiving episcopal ordination on the following May 31.

Since 2017, he has been Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Seattle.
