Pope Francis undergoes hospital treatment for bronchitis
The Pontiff is in Rome's Gemelli Polyclinic for medical attention, following tests performed on Wednesday
Pope Francis has been admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Polyclinic for further treatment for bronchitis. The Holy See said that after fulfilling his schedule, including morning audiences and other commitments, the Pope underwent medical tests that confirmed the need for his hospitalization. During his stay, he will continue with the therapies necessary for his recovery. The Holy Father continues his recovery process under medical care.
The Holy See Press Office reported on Friday that Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic after the morning audiences.
The Pope will undergo several diagnostic tests and will continue treatment for his persistent attack of bronchitis.
“This morning, after the audiences, Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for the necessary diagnostic tests and to continue the hospital treatment of his ongoing bronchitis,” the statement reads.
The Holy Father has been suffering from bronchitis for several days, as he has acknowledged during a couple of public audiences.
He has asked his collaborators to read his prepared interventions at the last two Wednesday General Audiences, among other events.
The Holy See Press Office had already released a statement on February 6 stating that the Pope was suffering from bronchitis and that he would hold the audiences at his residence Casa Santa Marta.
