Pope Francis has appointed His Excellency Mgr Józef Guzdek Metropolitan Archbishop of Białystok, Poland, transferring him from the office of Military Ordinary for Poland.

HE Msgr. Józef Guzdek was born on March 18, 1956, in Wadowice, in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kraków. After passing the final exams, in 1975 he was admitted to the Major Metropolitan Seminary of Kraków and on May 17, 1981 he received priestly ordination for that archdiocese. After his pastoral service as parochial vicar in three parishes, he was appointed prefect of discipline in the major seminary of Kraków (1994-1998) and later rector of the same seminary.

In 2004 he was elected to the titular see of Treba and appointed Auxiliary of Kraków. On 4 December 2010 he was transferred to the headquarters of the Military Ordinariate for Poland in Warszawa.

Within the framework of the Polish Episcopal Conference, the Prelate is Vice-President of the Council for the Apostolate of the Laity and Delegate for the Pastoral Care of the Police and Scouts.

Appointment of the Bishop of Santa Rosa de Lima (Guatemala)

The Holy Father has appointed HE Mgr. José Cayetano Parra Novo, OP, Bishop of the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima (Guatemala), transferring him from the titular See of Tubia and from the office of Auxiliary of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santiago de Guatemala.

HE Bishop José Cayetano Parra Novo, OP, was born on 5 September 1950 in Otívar, Metropolitan Archdiocese of Granada, Spain. In 1967 he entered the Order of Preachers of Valencia and made his solemn vows on 13 October 1974. He studied Theology, Catechesis, and Pedagogy at the CENIEC of the Episcopal Commission for Education of the Spanish Episcopal Conference based in the Seminary Archdiocesan of Valencia.

In 1976 he was assigned as a missionary in Alta Verapaz in Guatemala. He completed basic theological training at the Salesian Instituto Teológico of the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala City. He was ordained a priest on October 28, 1979. He later held the office of parish priest and local superior of the Dominican Community on several occasions. In 1993, while he was parish priest of San Martín de Porres in Guatemala City, he set up the Fundación San Martín de Porres for the promotion of educational and social projects in the disadvantaged regions of Verapaz and Quiché. In 1994 he obtained a licentiate in theology at the ‘ Instituto Salesian Theological dell’Universidad Francisco Marroquín . In 2001 he was appointed parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Santa Ana, El Salvador. From 2002 to 2012 he was again parish priest of San Martín de Porres and from 2012 to 2016 Rector of the church of San Agustín in Guatemala City.

On 11 November 2016, he was appointed titular bishop of Tubia and auxiliary of Santiago de Guatemala and received episcopal ordination on 21 January 2017.

Appointment of the Bishop of Sololá-Chimaltenango (Guatemala)

The Holy Father has appointed HE Mgr. Domingo Buezo Leiva as Bishop of the Diocese of Sololá-Chimaltenango (Guatemala), transferring him from the titular see of Dardano and from the office of Vicar Apostolic of Izabal.

HE Mons. Domingo Buezo Leiva was born on 12 December 1962 in Zulia (Guatemala), Diocese of Zacapa. After his primary studies in Horcones, Esquipulas, he entered the minor seminary of Sololá. Later, he began his studies at the Salesian Teológico Institute in Guatemala City. He obtained a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (1996-1997).

He was ordained a priest on November 25, 1988, for the Diocese of Zacapa. After his priestly ordination he held the following positions: Coadjutor (1988-1989) and later Parish Priest of San Pedro a Zacapa (1990-1995) (1998-2002); Episcopal Vicar of the Pastoral Care (1998-2013) and Parish Priest of San Ildefonso ad Ipala (Chiquimula) (2002-2009); Pastor of San Juan Bautista in Camotán (Chiquimula) (2009-2013).

On 9 February 2013, he was appointed Apostolic Vicar of Izabal, Guatemala, and was assigned the titular See of Dardano. He received episcopal consecration on May 4, 2013.

Appointment of the Bishop of Teruel y Albarracín (Spain)

The Holy Father has appointed Rev. José Antonio Satué Huerto, of the clergy of Huesca, currently an Official of the Congregation for the Clergy, as Bishop of the Diocese of Teruel y Albarracín (Spain) .

HE Mons. José Antonio Satué Huerto was born in Sesa, Huesca, on February 6, 1968. He studied philosophy and theology at the Centro Regional de Estudios Teológicos de Aragón (CRETE). He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Huesca on 4 September 1993. In 2004 he obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

After priestly ordination he was Parish Vicar (1993-1998) and Parish Priest of San Lorenzo in Huesca (1998-2002), Vicar General (2004-2009), Delegate for the Media (2004-2015), Judicial Vicar ( 2004-2015), Canon of the Cathedral (2006-2009), Parish Priest of Ibieca, Labata, Aguas and Liesa (2008-2009), Parish Priest of Sariñena and Lastanosa (2009-2012) and Parish Priest of Santo Domingo y San Martín , Huesca ( 2012-2015). He was also a member of the presbyteral council (2011-2015) and since 2015 he has been an official of the Congregation for the Clergy.

Appointment of Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Delhi (India)

The Holy Father has appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Delhi (India), Rev. Deepak Valerian Tauro, of the clergy of Muzaffarpur, former Rector of St. Albert’s College of Ranchi, assigning him the titular See of Buleliana.

HE Msgr. Deepak Valerian Tauro was born on August 2, 1967, in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. He completed his Philosophy studies at the Morning Star Regional Seminary and College in Barrackpore (1986-1990) and, after spending two years of pastoral care in the Diocese of Muzaffarpur (1990-1992), he studied Theology at St. Albert’s College in Ranchi (1992-1996). He received his Master in Spirituality & Counseling from Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram in Bangalore (2002-2005). He was ordained a priest on 10 May 1996 for the Diocese of Muzaffarpur.

After his priestly ordination, he held the following positions: Parish Vicar in Samastipur (1996-1997) and in Bettiah, Muzaffarpur (1997-1999); Rector of the Minor Seminary of Muzaffarpur (1999-2002) (2005-2007); Secretary of the Bishop of Muzaffarpur (2007-2010); Director of the Diocesan Youth Forum (2007-2011); CDPI Regional Secretary – Bihar, Jharkhand & Andaman’s Bishops’ Council (BIJHAN) (2009-2011); Rector of the Minor Seminary of Muzaffarpur (2010-2011); Lecturer and Spiritual Director of St. Albert’s College, Ranchi (2011-2015). From 2012 he was Secretary of Bihar, Jharkhand & Andaman’s Bishops’ Council (BIJHAN), and from 2015 to 2021 Rector of St. Albert’s College, Ranchi.
