At the end of a private rite, presided over by Card. Gambetti, which lasted until 7:40 a.m., the mortal remains of Pope Emeritus were transferred from the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican Basilica to the Altar of Confession. . They will remain there for three days until the funeral, at which between 50 and 60 thousand people are expected to attend.
The Basilica is now fully prepared for the arrival of the hundreds of faithful who will pay homage to the mortal remains of Benedict XVI.
