Vatican to get Youth Perspective on Food

‘People and planet: Youth bringing meaning and action to food justice’

Vatican Youth Perspective Food

The Vatican will get a youth perspective on food on Tuesday, July 27, from 19:30 to 20:20 CEST. The Vatican Covid-19 Commission, at the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, along with the Economy of Francesco, an international movement of young economists inspired by Pope Francis, will host “People and planet: Youth bringing meaning and action to food justice”, an affiliated session of the United Nations Food Systems Summit Pre-Summit.

The engaging event will feature 6 youth speakers in two sessions sharing their globally diverse experience of food systems from across the food supply chain and the innovative ways they’re making commitments to food systems transformations today.

Each of us has a role to play in transforming food systems for people and the planet, and “all of us can cooperate for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents” (Laudato si’ 14).

The two sessions will be moderated by Lucia Capuzzi, a journalist on the international affairs desk at Avvenire, and Fr. Augusto Zampini, Adjunct Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and Coordinator of the Vatican Covid-19 Commission.

“Food for all” is one of the three main priorities, along with “Jobs for all” and “Health for all”, of the Vatican Covid-19 Commission for 2021, as we prepare the future and work towards systems that prioritize people and planet. To learn more about the Vatican Covid-19 Commission’s vision of food for all, please see our report “Healing the planet: the right to food for all.”

Building up to the Pre-Summit (Rome, 26 – 28 July) the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to FAO, IFAD & WFP, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and the Vatican Covid-19 Commission hosted in May 2021 a series of three webinars, “Food for Life, Food Justice, Food for All”, registered as independent dialogues contributing to the UN Food Systems Summit.

The Vatican Covid-19 Commission’s video, “Food for All: A Moral Call,” which captures the main messages from the three-webinar series, will be screened in between sessions. You can now view the video with English, Italian and Spanish subtitles.

The event will be hosted on Zoom with translation available and streamed on youtube live in language original. You may now register for the affiliated session here.
