Pope Appoints Two Auxiliary Bishops in Chile

Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of Santiago de Chile, Chile, the Reverend Carlos Alberto Godoy Labraña, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now episcopal vicar for pastoral care, assigning him the titular see of Pudenziana, and the Reverend Cristián Castro Toovey, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now rector of the major seminary, assigning him the titular see of Tigava.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Carlos Alberto Godoy Labraña

Msgr. Carlos Alberto Godoy Labraña was born on 28 March 1969 in Santiago de Chile. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the major seminary of Santiago. He was awarded a master’s degree specializing in psycho-spiritual accompaniment from the Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Santiago.

He received priestly ordination on 18 May 1996, and was incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Santiago de Chile.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, vice dean in Pudahuel Sur, parish priest of Cristo de Emaús, dean in Puente de Alto Sur, head of the complaints office in Santiago, spiritual director of the major seminary of Santiago, rector of the Cerro San Cristóbal Shrine, and, from 2019 to the present, episcopal vicar for pastoral care.


 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Cristián Castro Toovey

Msgr. Cristián Castro Toovey was born on 25 November 1969 in Santiago de Chile. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the major seminary of Santiago.

He received priestly ordination on 24 May 1997, and was incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Santiago de Chile.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar, parish administrator and parish priest of Santo Tomás Moro, diocesan delegate of the complaints office of Santiago, parish priest of Santa Inés, chaplain of the Obrero campesino Department of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and, from 2014 to the present, rector of the major seminary in Santiago.
