Pope Francis Continues Optimistic Recovery and Maintains Work Pace
Update on the Pontiff's Health During His Convalescence at Casa Santa Marta

The Holy See has provided a new update on the health of Pope Francis, who continues his recovery process at Casa Santa Marta, after being discharged from Gemelli Hospital on March 23. According to an official report from the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, released on April 1, 2025, the Pontiff is stable, in good spirits, and remains dedicated to his work.
The latest medical analyses reveal that his blood test results are completely normal, which is good news for his recovery. Furthermore, the chest X-ray performed shows considerable improvement compared to the previously detected lung infection.
The Pope continues to undergo specific treatment, which has contributed to notable progress in his mobility, respiratory capacity, and use of his voice. Although he continues to require high-flow oxygen with nasal prongs, this measure is limited mainly to the night or when necessary to assist his breathing.
Despite the circumstances, the Holy Father’s work continues uninterrupted. Francis dedicates time to his desk to continue his responsibilities and, as every morning, celebrates Mass in the chapel of Casa Santa Marta.
Regarding his public agenda, it has been confirmed that on Wednesday, April 2, the text of the catechesis he would have presented at the general audience will be published, as has been customary on previous Wednesdays. In addition, information will be provided on how the Angelus will be held in the coming days. The homily for the Sunday Mass on April 6, scheduled for the Jubilee of the Sick and the World of Health, will be prepared by the Pope, but will be read by Monsignor Rino Fisichella, who will preside over the ceremony.
Regarding Holy Week celebrations, it is still too early to determine what activities the Pope will be able to participate in, as everything will depend on his health in the coming days.
In general, Pope Francis remains in good spirits and constantly receives displays of affection and support from the faithful.
