Pope Video, August 2024: Praying for political leaders
Prayer intention that the Holy Father entrusts to the entire Church

Below we publish the text of the Pope Video with the prayer intention for the month of August distributed through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network on the theme “For political leaders”: Let us pray that political leaders may be at the service of their people, working for integral human development and the common good, caring for those who have lost their jobs and giving priority to the poorest.

Text of the Holy Father Video
Today politics does not have a good reputation: corruption, and scandals, are removed from the daily lives of people.
But can we move towards universal brotherhood without good politics? No.
As Paul VI said, politics is one of the highest forms of charity, because it seeks the common good.
I am talking about POLITICS with a capital P, not politicking. I am talking about politics that listens to reality, that is at the service of the poor, not of politics that is locked up in large buildings with long corridors.
I am talking about politics that cares about the unemployed and knows very well how sad a Sunday can be when Monday is just another day without being able to go to work.
If we look at it this way, politics is much more noble than it appears.
Let us thank the many politicians who carry out their work with a desire to serve, not to power, for all their efforts for the common good.
Let us pray that political leaders may be at the service of their people, working for integral human development, working for the common good, caring for those who have lost their jobs and giving priority to the poorest.
