The Holy Spirit will remind you of everything I have told you: Commentary by Fr. Jorge Miró

Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the Gospel of this Sunday, May 25, 2025, entitled “The Holy Spirit will remind you of everything I have told you.”

We are approaching the Ascension, when the Risen Jesus will ascend to heaven. It may seem that he will leave us alone. But no! Jesus will fulfill his promise: know that I am with you always, until the end of time (Mt 28:20).

Jesus will continue to be with us in a new way, but no less real.

He promises to make his dwelling place in those who love and keep his Word. Therefore, to be a disciple, we must listen to the Master. That is the conversion of each day.

He promises the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send and who will teach the Apostles everything, remembering what Jesus told them. Therefore, we heard in the first reading: we have decided the Holy Spirit, and we…

The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles shows the extent of the demands of conversion: to the point of changing customs incompatible with the Gospel, and, even more, to the point of changing one’s own convictions: to be a Christian is to allow oneself to be totally illuminated by Christ, to allow Him to speak to your heart and completely change your life until it is as He wants it.

The Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church and guides her in the midst of history. The second reading, from the Book of Revelation, shows us the Church founded on the Twelve Apostles as the natural path for Christians to live their faith and attain eternal life. Your communion with the Church is fundamental to being in communion with Christ. The readings of this Easter season insistently remind us of this.

To be a disciple is to allow yourself to be made by the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit will always lead you to fidelity, to the Word, to ecclesial communion, to fraternal love, and to generously dedicate your life to the service of the Lord, wherever He may call you. He will lead you to live life in the Spirit (cf. Rom 8 and Gal 5).

He promises the gift of peace. Peace is not a human achievement, but a gift from God. The peace of Christ is not the tranquility of a couch: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid (Jn 14:27).

It is the peace of those who know they are freely and unconditionally loved by God; the peace of those who know that all their sins are nailed to the cross of Jesus Christ and that salvation is offered to them as a gift; the peace of those who can experience every day that they are inhabited by the consoling Spirit, the sweet guest of the soul. The peace of one who is certain that nothing and no one can separate me from the love of God.

As Pope Leo taught us, peace is an active, passionate gift that affects and engages each of us… and that first and foremost demands work on oneself. Peace is built in the heart and from the heart, uprooting pride and demands, and measuring language, because one can also wound and kill with words, not only with weapons (cf. Address to the Diplomatic Corps, 16 May 2025).

Courage! Open your heart to the Lord! Prepare to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit! Allow yourself to be led by Him! If you believe, you will see the glory of God!

Happy Sunday! Happy Eucharist!

Come, Holy Spirit!
