Vatican News

The upcoming closure of the Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on 29 October 2023 will mark the end of a two-year synodal process involving millions of people from around the world.

The Synod has been a time of great hope and renewal for the Catholic Church, an opportunity for Catholics of all ages, conditions and backgrounds to come together and reflect on the nature of the Church and its mission in today’s world.

The Synod generated much debate and discussion and raised a number of challenges and opportunities for the Church. Some of the key themes that emerged included the need for greater lay participation in the life of the Church, the need for greater openness and dialogue with other religions and cultures, and the need for a more inclusive and welcoming Church for all.

The closing of the Synod will be an important moment to reflect on what the Church has learned from this process. Pope Francis will deliver an address in which he will present the conclusions of the Synod and indicate the way forward for the Church.
