Love is manifested in fidelity to the Word: Commentary Fr. Jorge Miró

Fifth Sunday of Easter, April 28, 2024

Father Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on today’s Gospel, Sunday, April 28, 2024, titled “Love is manifested in fidelity to the Word”

He who belongs to Christ is a new creature and bears fruits of holiness. But in order to bear these fruits, the key is to remain united to Christ, because without me, you can do nothing.

The Word has given us some clues about what this abiding means.

He who abides in me and I in him, he bears abundant fruit. We are called to live a personal relationship, a relationship of love: to live in communion with the Lord, to have the same feelings and attitudes. Ask him every day: Lord, what do you want from me? How do you want me to live today? Being a Christian is not a moralism, a compliance with rules, but rather a following of the Lord, letting yourself be led wherever He wants to take you.

You are already clean because of the words I have spoken to you. The disciple lives by listening to the Master, by allowing himself to be “pruned” by the Word, which has eternal life. To let this Word recreate you, giving you the mind of Christ.

He who keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. Love is manifested in fidelity, fidelity to the Word, fidelity to the vocation that God has given you, fidelity to the mission. This is the spirit of the lover, of the son.

The Church was built and progressed in the fear of the Lord, and multiplied, with the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Remain in the Body of Christ, which is the Church. You have not been created for loneliness, but for relationship, communion and giving. You will bear fruit if you live in communion with the Church, with the brothers that the Lord has given you. You will bear fruit by living your faith in the Church, receiving the sacraments from her, especially the Eucharist, and praising the Lord with your brothers and serving them generously.

And all this animated by the Holy Spirit. Not in your strength, but in the strength of the Spirit. Without me, you can’t do anything. Letting yourself be filled with: his gifts, welcoming the charisma, and seeking in everything the glory of God and not yours. Seeking in everything to do God’s will and not yours.

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone on which the Holy Spirit wants to build the building of your life.

Cheer up! Open yourself to the gift of the Holy Spirit! Let yourself be renewed and built by Him! Then you will live what we sing in the Psalm: the poor will eat and be satisfied, those who seek the Lord will praise him… He will make me live for him… they will tell… everything the Lord did.

Happy Sunday! Happy Eucharist!
