The meaning of Christmas

What was God born for?

Christmas is coming, and once again the same question that has been haunting me for many years around this time of year comes back to haunt me: What do those who don’t believe in Christmas celebrate?

We all know what Christmas is, Christians, Muslims, atheists, or anyone. It is the birth of God made a child in Bethlehem. Believe it or not.

Anyone also knows why God was born. He was incarnated for the love of men. To each one of those who have existed and will exist. God is Love, and by being born he gave being to the essence of it.

The question is not why but for what. What was God born for? And this is where I fail to understand the celebration of those who do not believe in Christmas. The Gospel says, “Today in the city of David has been born to you the Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke, 1:11). Jesus, the child of God, was born to save us.

«Save us? What does he have to save us from? Today, the human being considers that he does not need to be saved from anything. The only sins in force are the behaviors that appear classified in the penal code and thank God, few steal, those who kill, those who rape and those who mistreat. We are not among them, so we do not need to be saved from anything. Furthermore, we help everyone we can, and we do good wherever we go.

But if God has not come to save us all, only “the bad ones”, why so much joy? Let the bad guys rejoice, not me!

Well, I don’t know about you, but I don’t have enough room inside me because God was born and came into the world to save me. To me in person. And my joy is greater because he has also come to save my entire family. The truth is that we do not commit any crime and we strive to be the best we can, but what do you want me to tell you, at least I have a pride that does not fit into my body. And from time to time I get jealous that you don’t see. And there are certain characters (some I don’t know except on TV), but I can’t understand them.

And what do they want me to tell them, but that “You will love God with all your mind, with all your soul and with all your heart”… I try (sometimes), but thank goodness God knows me and realized that either he sent his Son, or I, like that, on my own… of course not.

In short, Merry Christmas to everyone, to those who know that they have to be saved, well congratulations, that God was born for us, and to those who do not believe so, then at all, let them celebrate Christmas, at least also for us, if it is not because God was born to save us, why Christmas?
