It is not difficult to fall into the trap of reducing Christmas to a mere family, traditional, or sentimental holiday, or to a memory of a distant event that has little to say in our lives today.

And, to celebrate Christmas as God intended, the Church proposes to us on this last Sunday of Advent the example of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary was able to receive Jesus because she was prepared, and we can only receive Jesus if we are prepared like Mary.

What needs to be done to be prepared? Firstly, have a true desire for Jesus to come, then eliminate the obstacles in our hearts that prevent the coming of Jesus: sin, arrogance, pride, lack of humility, and lack of charity. It is also important that – amid the noise of society – we have an attitude of listening to the Word of God, letting it penetrate and act in our hearts; and docility to the Holy Spirit, letting Him lead our life.

The Word of God today teaches us that the humble are the ones who will find God. God speaks to those who are poor in spirit, to the humble and simple who come to Him because they feel they need Him.

Therefore, the Word of God today proposes MARY as an example. She is the humble servant of the Lord. She is the one who feels small, the one who is simple and open to God. Mary thus becomes a model for us at this end of Advent: she receives God through her humility, because she accepts him without conditions, because she is willing to accept and fulfill his will, because she knows that he is the Lord and she is the servant. , He is the Master and she is the disciple.

Therefore, the Word of God invites you today to be humble and simple like Mary, to open your heart without reservation to God who is already coming, to not put conditions on Him. Only the humble will find God.

Only the humble can have faith. Humility is the door to faith. Because the humble is the one who feels small, poor, who feels in need of help. And, for that reason, he looks for her. And as he seeks help with true desire, he finds it.

How is your heart? Are you ready to receive the Lord who arrives? Is your heart clean of obstacles? Do you want Jesus to be in your heart and fill it? Cheer up! Don’t let Christmas be stolen from you! Have a simple and humble heart like Mary’s and prepare to receive the Lord! You will find the peace, joy and happiness that only the Lord can give you!
