The new prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, presented the new text that addresses issues that threaten human dignity such as abortion, human trafficking or gender ideology.

Dignitas Infinita, recalls the fundamental principles and theoretical assumptions to offer clarifications on the term dignity.

Human dignity is the same for all people and is a fundamental pillar of Christian teaching.

Conditions of an economic, social, legal, political and cultural order constitute a requirement for the correct exercise of freedom. Respect for human dignity is the key.

Dignitas Infinita is a text that has taken five years to prepare. A normal period due to the participation of numerous experts on the topics and the change in the Prefect of the Dicastery.

It is approved by the Pope and is presented as an opportunity for the church to clarify situations that arise around human dignity and to address concrete, serious and urgent issues related to it.

The document on human dignity is motivated by the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights and also by the profound moral crisis that we are experiencing at this time and that produces misunderstandings about it.

Dignitas Infinita bases human dignity on the mystery of the creation of man in the image and likeness of God, until reaching the divinity of Christ.

Dignity belongs to each human person and comes from the love of the Creator. Without God man loses his dignity and his humanity.

The evolution of pontifical teaching on the topic of human dignity is highlighted.

The Doctrine of faith considers unacceptable the ideology that separates gender and sex.

The morality of the person cannot be separated from social morality. Justice, peace, family morality are inherent to all human life.

The most serious violations of human dignity are:

  • poverty,
  • war,
  • the dignity of immigrants,
  • human trafficking,
  • sexual abuse,
  • the abortion,
  • violence against women,
  • surrogacy,
  • Euthanasia,
  • gender ideology,
  • the sex change.

Any sex change operation violates the unique dignity that the person has received since conception.

The human body participates in the dignity of the person, especially in their sexual condition.
