Father Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on today’s Gospel, Sunday, February 25, 2024, titled “This is my Son, the beloved, my favorite. Listen to him”

Today the Gospel tells us about the Transfiguration of the Lord: before reaching the drama of the Passion, Jesus Christ appears transfigured, glorious, before his disciples.

The Transfiguration is an announcement and a glorious foretaste of the Resurrection of the Lord.

With this, the Word of God wants to encourage you in your walk towards eternal life. He wants to remind you that you are a citizen of heaven. You are not an existential wanderer walking towards nowhere, but a pilgrim marching towards heaven.

The light of eternal life transfigures the cross and transforms it from painful to glorious. And that is why Jesus Christ reminds you that it is of no use to you to gain the whole world if your soul is lost. Everything would be useless if you do not achieve eternal life.

Today the Lord invites you to enter the mystery of the cross, from faith. The first reading reminds us of Abraham, our father in faith, and shows us the Christian life as a long path that must be followed.

God calls you, like Abraham, he invites you to walk the path, and the important thing is not to stop, the important thing is to advance without ceasing on that path of salvation.

Abraham is a believer and obedient to the Word of God, he is willing to do anything: he trusts God. This is what faith consists of: knowing that you are loved by God, trusting in Him and accepting His word as a word of love and salvation, even though it often disconcerts you.

The Gospel, for its part, also shows us what is the driving force to advance in this pilgrimage, in which the important thing is not to participate, but to win: This is my Son, the beloved, my favorite. Listen to him.

Those who humbly advances on the path of eternal life, listens to Jesus Christ, accepts him as the Master and proclaims him as the only Lord and allows the Holy Spirit to give him a new heart with the same feelings and attitudes, trying to live every day as He lived.

Those who do not isolate themselves by living the faith in a solitary and individualistic way advance on the path of eternal life. God has made an alliance with a people and invites you to live and walk with this people, with the Church, with the specific brothers that the Lord has given you, as a gift, as precious help. God has not created you for loneliness, but for relationship, communion and donation.

Do you dare to follow the path seriously? It’s worth it! Go on the adventure! Dare yourself! Will not disappoint you!

Come Holy Spirit!
